ETA member Mikel Carrera Sarobe sentenced to life in prison

Saioa Sanchez was sentenced to 28 years while Asier Bengoa was found innocent of the murder charges but given a 15-year sentence for other charges.

A member of the armed Basque group ETA received a life sentence Thursday for the 2007 murder of two Spanish police officers in Capbreton, southwest France.

A French court sentenced Mikel Carrera Sarobe, Ata to life and will have to spend at least 22 years in prison for the murder of the Spanish policemen Raúl Centeno and Fernando Trapero while on assignment near the Spanish border.

Saioa Sánchez Iturregi, Hintza, was sentenced to 28 years in prison and will have to serve at least two-thirds of her sentence.

Another accused, Asier Bengoa López, was found innocent of the murder charges but given a 15-year sentence for other charges.

The court also gave prison terms for another four ETA members, none of them directlity related to the Capbreton killings.

Former ETA military commander Garikoitz Aspiazu Rubina, Txeroki, already serving a sentence, was given a 9-year sentence. Ibón Goieaskoetxea Arronategi  was given a 5-year sentence. Eider Uruburu Zabaleta was given a six-year sentence and Iratxe Sorzábal Díaz, at the moment on the run, was given a five-year sentence.
